Park Road Refurbishment

This proposal for a new creative workshop space for the Anise Gallery in Forest Hill, London draws on its immediate industrial context. The extension is clad in a bold blue corrugated metal cladding, an inexpensive and commonplace building material elevated through a distinctive form and strong use of colour. It allows the creation of a new flexible exhibition space, maximising the use of the site and creating a strong presence on Malham Road. Limiting the height and depth of the new extension ensures it falls under permitted development rights.

This refurbishment project looks at using low cost methods to enhance character and atmosphere. Exposing the timber construction adds warmth, richness and texture to the interior. Timber windows and doors have also been used to achieve consistency in the use of materials. The island worktop is overly thick to provide a sense of robustness and weight to this central gathering place for friends and family.
